Planting a Vegetable Garden for Spring : Gardening Tips for Vegetable Garden

Hello everybody I am David Rodriquez, horticulturist
with Texas Agri-life Extension service on behalf of Expert Village and we are going
to show you some gardening steps in preparing your vegetable garden for the spring planting.
We have talked about finding a good location in the springtime in a full sunny area that
is level and that is weed free. But we have to take into consideration the other seasons
of the year, kind of keep an eye on the amount of sunlight, not only now but down in the
other months during the year so that you know the area constantly has full sun. We have
talked about different kinds of raised beds, you can use landscape timbers, treated cedar,
railroad ties, bricks, cinder blocks, anything to bring in so that you are not working at
times when you have that heavy hard types of soil that is sometimes hard to work with
or simply rototillered. Mulching is very important besides composite, a good organic mulch when
it decomposes, it holds moisture, cuts back on your weeds and a good organic mulch becomes
good composite that is essential nutrients that plants need to grow successfully.
