How to Correct Splayed Tines – Troubleshooting Fountain Pen Nibs

How to Correct Splayed Tines This is how to correct splayed tines. Depending on how badly splayed the tines are, you can try one of the following solutions. With a fingertip on the underside of the feed, roll the nib from base to tip gently but firmly against the edge of a hard surface. With a fingertip on the underside of the feed, press the top side of the tip against a hard surface and rock the nib from side to side for five to ten seconds. With a fingertip on the side of the one tine, press the tip of the other tine down on a hard surface and hold for several seconds. Turn the nib over and repeat on the other side. Grip the sides of both tines between two fingertips. Squeeze the tines firmly together for five to ten seconds. This can be uncomfortable, so we recommend using a thin, smooth towel or piece of rubber to cushion your fingertips.
